Welcome!
Welcome to the fourth grade! My name is Shawna Grund, and I will be your child’s teacher this school year. I am very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to meeting you! I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
This year will be my 28th year of teaching. I taught second grade in Culver, Indiana, my first year and have been teaching fourth grade in Peru ever since. This is my 20th year teaching at Blair Pointe. I graduated from Ball State in 1998. I received my master’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 2005. My husband David and I have two daughters at home. Mallori is 21 years old, and Maci is 18 years old. I am 50 years old and have wanted to teach since I was in the third grade!
Since teaching has been a dream of mine since the third grade, I feel lucky to be accomplishing my goal and take my job very seriously. My mission is to have high expectations for all my students. I want them to believe in themselves and have “I Can” attitudes. I will be approachable and show respect for my students, so they can learn from my example and carry these practices into their future lives.
I am dedicated to teaching your child. I will not only be teaching the curriculum, but also the skills that I feel are important in being productive citizens in society. I hope that the children will give me the same desire to learn that I will be giving them to teach. Our class motto for the year is “Never settle for less than your best!”. We are going to expect the absolute best from each and every person this year!
We also need you! Parents are very important in the success of their children. Together, I feel that we will make a great team! Please contact me at any time if you have questions, concerns, or just want to come in and visit. My ears and our classroom door are always open to you! I will be keeping in touch. Be watching every Monday for the weekly newsletter. Again, I look forward to a wonderful year!
Sincerely, Mrs. Grund
